Religious Inclusiveness Discussed at Semarang Conference

September 1, 2015

ASEACCU Annual Conference was held in Soegijapranata Catholic University, Semarang, Indonesia last August 27-29, 2015. The theme of the conference Catholic Higher Education and Religious Inclusiveness served as a platform to learn, share, and discuss the issues pertaining to religious inclusiveness and the role of Catholic Higher Education in Asian contexts. As in previous annual conferences, the 2015 annual conference had two parts, namely, a student camp and a faculty conference. One hundred (100) administrators and faculty members from different ASEACCU member institutions attended the faculty conference, and fifty eight (58) students participated in the student camp.

The faculty conference and student camp were simultaneously held. Topics that were discussed in the faculty conference included “Inclusiveness in a Culturally Diverse Country”, “Catholic Higher Education in a Diverse Learning Community”, and “Religious Inclusiveness and the Role of Higher Education” while the student camp introduced the students to pluralism as well as to various environmental and social problems. The student camp and service learning programs were also intended to immerse students into the actual practice of religious inclusiveness in Central Java.
