Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 9th century, it is dedicated to the Trimurti—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The temple is renowned for its towering architecture and intricate stone carvings depicting ancient Hindu epics.

Set against the majestic backdrop of Prambanan Temple, the Ramayana Ballet presents the legendary Hindu epic through a combination of traditional dance, music, and drama. This open-air performance offers a memorable cultural experience, especially during sunset and evening time.

Short Tour in Ganjuran Temple

Ganjuran Temple is a unique Catholic pilgrimage site that reflects a deep inculturation of Javanese culture. Visitors will find a blend of Catholic spirituality and local traditions, including a temple-like structure inspired by Hindu-Javanese architecture.

The closing Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Ganjuran. This historic church, known for its serene atmosphere and cultural uniqueness. The site is a significant place of pilgrimage in Indonesia, symbolizing harmony between faith and local culture.

15. Currency

The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the official currency of Indonesia.

For the daily foreign exchange rate, please visit: https://www.bi.go.id/en/statistik/informasi-kurs/transaksi-bi/default.aspx

Foreign currency can be exchanged at authorized money changers, banks, or international airports and hotels. It is recommended to use licensed exchange services for security and reliability.

Be sure to keep the receipt obtained during the exchange. If you need to convert unused Indonesian Rupiah back before leaving, you may be required to present this receipt.

17. Electricity

The standard voltage in Indonesia is 230V, and the frequency is 50Hz. There are two common types of plugs: Type C, which has two round pins, and Type F (Schuko), which has two round pins with grounding clips on the sides. Two-pin plugs (Type C) can also be used with Type F sockets.

18. Weather and Clothing

In August, Yogyakarta typically experiences dry season weather with warm temperatures and low rainfall. August is part of the peak dry season, so sunny days are common.

Daytime temperatures usually reach around 30–32°C, while at night they may drop to about 22–24°C. Although generally dry, the weather can still feel hot during midday.

Participants are advised to wear light, breathable clothing, stay hydrated, and use sun protection such as hats, sunglasses, or sunscreen when outdoors.

19. Drinking Water

In Yogyakarta, tap water is generally not safe for direct consumption, and it is recommended to boil water before drinking or use filtered/bottled water.

There are usually hot and cold water dispensers available at the Conference venues for participants to use. In line with the conference’s commitment to sustainability, participants are encouraged to use and refill their conference drink bottle (tumbler) or personal reusable bottle throughout the event, rather than purchasing single-use bottled water.

20. Emergency Protocol

In the event that an earthquake occurs:

  1. Prepare an “emergency evacuation kit” and place it in an easily accessible location.
  2. Stay calm and prioritize your safety, especially from falling objects.
  3. When the shaking is strong, take cover under a sturdy table or next to a main pillar.
  4. Avoid sheltering under light fixtures, near cabinets, or near glass objects.
  5. Do not use elevators.
  6. After the shaking stops, move to an open area away from buildings, trees, utility poles, and signboards.
  7. In public places, follow instructions from authorities and avoid panic or pushing.
  8. In large venues (auditoriums, halls), take cover under your seat and evacuate calmly after the shaking stops.
  9. After the earthquake, check gas, water, and electricity. If you suspect a gas leak, ventilate the area and leave immediately.
  10. Follow official information from authorities and avoid spreading or believing rumors.
